The Carlines w/ Half-Asian
JULY 11
Retro indie-pop-rock
Based in Victoria, BC, The Carlines
most recent EP 'Keep The Light On' carries the nostalgia of yesteryear and makes
you feel good in it's entirety with light and sunny hooks. Standout tracks 'First Light' and ‘Now Or Never’ lure you in with an
infectious optimism. Featuring collaborations with Mike Edel and Parker Bossley,
the songs present a strong dose of nostalgia for yesteryear with upbeat rhythms,
punchy guitars, melodic synths, and catchy vocals.
Nastasia Y w/ Ian Skorscha
JULY 18
“Dynamic, emotional, hip, stylish, sophisticated…”
Nastasia Y [nas-TA-s’yah] is a multi-lingual singer & keyboardist who seamlessly blends folk tradition with a futuristic vision. Her music is inspired by the vibrant city of Toronto, Canada, which she now calls home: fusing funk, R&B, electro, and jazz with Slavic folk music. Her music is rooted in the ancestral grief and wisdom of her past while embracing a modern inter-connected future.
King Cardiac
JULY 25
New Orleans jazz, Latin rhythms, soul and rock and roll are all pieces in the sonic mosaic
King Cardiac drapes heartfelt songwriting in a technicolour dream coat of unbridled horns and brooding rhythms. The genre bending ensemble features singer-songwriter and guitarist Gabriel DeSantis uniting with Toronto heavyweights; Paul Metcalfe, Kae Murphy, Sam Petite, Tom Richards, Lowell Whitty and Alan Zemaitis to explore matters that rule the heart with hard grooves.
Madelyn Read w/ Elk
AUGUST 1
Haunting vocals and lyrics
Praised by Americana UK as a “wonderful example of grafting new perspectives onto folk and country roots,” Madelyn Read blends classic country instrumentation with lyrics about growing up in Vancouver, BC to produce a unique alt-country sound. Inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell, First Aid Kit and I’m With Her, Madelyn’s haunting vocals and earnest lyrics evoke a nostalgia for the city while contemplating the challenges of urban life.
Bu Von Blume w/ Trombonissimo
AUGUST 8
Bu VonBlume is funk.
Bu VonBlume is disco. Bu VonBlume is cumbia, punk, ska, soul, balkan. Whatever it takes to get the people moving and grooving, really. Vancouver Island multi-instrumentalist Lou Kinglish (normally an accordion player) teamed up with some of the heaviest hitting funk, brass, jazz and punk virtuosos around to create Bu VonBlume; a band that mixes hilarious theatre antics with downright dangerous bass and horn lines to cook up a real dance fiasco.
Cheko & The Pozitive Rebellion w/ Kids Songwriting Project
AUGUST 15
Love, consciousness and a sweet roots vibe!
Cheko embraces reggae music as the vessel in his journey to express a message of peace, respect and love in this time, and to voice awareness and understanding of our common human struggle in this Babylon system. From his Skanky Roots in Guadalajara, Mexico to recent work in Canada with The Lion Rockers Cheko has grown into his own over the years colaborating internationally with an eclectic collection of ska, funk and reggae bands.
Jesse Waldman w/ Claire Coupland
AUGUST 22
Love goes into everything Waldman does
Diamond-in-the-rough guitar virtuoso, Jesse Waldman, wears many hats, from candid singer-songwriter to studio producer, respected sound designer to sought-after film and TV composer. For the last decade, he has been honing his own unique and eclectic blend of folk and blues, earning him the reputation of being an “East Van fixture” by Exclaim! Magazine, all before ever recording his first solo album. Four years in the making, Mansion Full of Ghosts, a true labor of love, is finally here.
